The Generation III Open Range is the most popular cooker in the Good One's product range for good reason. It comes with all of the features offered on the previous model with a few new ones to improve your cooking experience.
One great feature of the Open Range is the reversible smoker box lid. This feature isn't entirely new in concept for there were two different lid configurations before, standard and reverse. The only disadvantage to this was that lid configurations on previous models were permanent. What they have done at The Good One to improve upon the older design was to offer the reversible lid as a standard feature. The smoker box lid hinges on two bolts, which once those bolts are removed with little effort, just reverse the lid and put them back in. This is accomplished in very little time with minimal fuss. Again, the reversible lid comes standard and the only option for you to decide is which configuration works for you. On top of all this, the smoker box lid has a locking mechanism to ensure that your smoker is closed tight and into place.
Another feature certainly worth noting about The Good One Open Range is the high-temp powder-coat paint. Other than withstanding the scorching temperatures that the The Open range can put off, high-temp powder-coat paint provides protection, improves durability, and offers a nice clean finish.
With all of these upgrades in mind, some things never change. The innovative design of this grill remains in tact by placing charcoal and wood in a handy firebox with it's own grill grate for direct grilling fish, burgers, or searing some fantastic steaks. The separate smoking chamber is located above and behind the firebox which is ideal for indirect cooking anything from ribs to brisket without the hot-spots commonly found on side-firebox smokers. How does the Good One avoid those hot-spots? An internal damper runs the entire length the grill so heat and smoke are distributed evenly from the firebox into the upper smoking chamber. The twist-style air intakes on the bottom of the firebox make temperature adjustments simple and repeatable. From low and slow smoking to high temperature grilling, with a total cooking area of 996 square inches, there is plenty of space to get any job done. Best of all, with the removable drop-in ash pan and charcoal grate assembly, clean-up is a breeze. The Open Range is built for some serious duty; the lids are even made from robust 11-gauge USA steel, the lids 14 gauge USA steel.
